REGIONS OF GHANA ACT - 1960 (CA 11)

    • (1) The Northern Region of Ghana as defined by subsection (2) of section 2 of the Brong-Ahafo Region Act, 1959 (No. 18) is hereby divided into two new Regions to be known as the Upper Region and the Northern Region.

      (2) Any reference in any enactment in force before the commencement of this Act to the Northern Region shall include a reference to the Upper Region.

    • (1) The Upper Region of Ghana as defined by sections 1 and 3 of the Regions of Ghana Act, 1960 (C.A. 11) is hereby divided into two new Regions to be known as the Upper West Region and the Upper East Region. [Inserted and to be cited as Regions of Ghana (Amendment) Law, 1983 (PNDCL 41), s.1 ].

    • (1) The Upper Region of Ghana as defined by sections 1 and 3 of the Regions of Ghana Act, 1960 (C.A. 11) is hereby divided into two new Regions to be known as the Upper West Region and the Upper East Region. [Inserted and to be cited as Regions of Ghana (Amendment) Law, 1983 (PNDCL 41), s.1 ].

    • (1) The Western Region of Ghana as defined by subsection (1) of section 63 of the Ghana (Constitution) Order in Council, 1957 (LN. 47) is hereby divided into two new Regions to be known as the Central Region and the Western Region.

      (2) Any reference in any enactment in force before the commencement of this Act to the Western Region shall include a reference to the Central Region.

    • (1) The Western Region of Ghana as defined by subsection (1) of section 63 of the Ghana (Constitution) Order in Council, 1957 (LN. 47) is hereby divided into two new Regions to be known as the Central Region and the Western Region.

      (2) Any reference in any enactment in force before the commencement of this Act to the Western Region shall include a reference to the Central Region.

    • The territories of a Region shall consist of the areas of authority for the time being of the councils specified in relation to that Region in the first column of the First Schedule to this Act as established by the instruments specified in relation to each such council in the second column of the said Schedule.

    • The area of the Upper West Region and the Upper East Region respectively shall for the time being consist of the councils specified in relation to each of the Regions in the first column of the Schedule to this Law as established by the instruments specified in relation to each such council in the second column of the said Schedule.     • Where a council mentioned in the First Schedule to this Act ceases to exist or the name thereof is changed the Minister responsible for Local Government shall by legislative instrument amend the said Schedule accordingly.

    • Any enactment in existence immediately before the commencement, of this Law shall have effect with such modifications as may be necessary to give effect to the provisions of this Law. [Inserted and to be cited as Regions of Ghana (Amendment) Law, 1983 (PNDCL 41), s. 4].

    • The enactments set out in the Second Schedule to this Act are hereby repealed to the extent specified in the last column of that Schedule.

    • This Act shall come into operation immediately before the coming into operation of the Constitution.
